Hi!

Welcome! My name is Parker Hurley and I recently earned my Bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University in May 2024, where I majored in journalism and minored in communication and sport management. Writing has always been a passion of mine; I further solidified that passion by completing several journalism-focused internships throughout my college career.

In January 2022, I worked as an intern for a local magazine called Maroon Weekly in College Station, Texas. Here, I connected what I had learned in the classroom so far to a hands-on position; I strengthened my writing, communication and collaboration skills immensely. I had over 10 articles published by the end of the internship in May 2022.

From August to November 2022, I had five articles published in The Battalion, Texas A&M's school newspaper. Reporting Sports, a journalism course I took this particular semester, allowed me to report on the Texas A&M men's golf beat. By the end of the course, I had crafted two advances, two recaps and a profile on the men's golf team for The Battalion.

One of my most memorable journalistic endeavors came into fruition through a study abroad program that took me across the globe to Florence, Italy. I worked as an intern at Magenta Publishing from January to April 2023. I had 25 articles published – which included pieces for Magenta Florence and Tuscan Trends – by the time my internship had concluded. I can confidently say I sharpened my interviewing, field-reporting, researching and copy-editing skills during my time there, but most importantly, I learned how to navigate being a journalist in a foreign country.

With the fall of 2023 also came my second to last semester as an undergraduate student at Texas A&M. Enrolled in two writing-intensive journalism courses, I was faced with many big projects that challenged and taught me in many ways. I acted as the managing editor of a special edition package, which was published in The Battalion, while simultaneously reporting on my chosen topic of the fentanyl crisis. Additionally, I served as the editor in chief for the January 2024 issue of Insite Magazine, a local Bryan-College Station publication, as well as published my first Q&A article after I sat down with three experts and got their advice on how to land a dream job. By the end of the semester, I had developed new skills from my leadership positions in the newsroom and completed my senior capstone project – a longform magazine piece about college-aged musical talents in College Station.

I am incredibly grateful for the experiences I've had, the people I've met, and the things I've learned throughout the last four years at Texas A&M, and am hopeful and eager to see where my journalistic adventures will take me next.
